A national television audience watched a tightly-checked, structurally-sound rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup final Sunday afternoon. Although the game was low scoring, several opportune scoring chances presented themselves for both teams, including some stellar near-misses for red-light strapped Jordan Staal in the third.

Sidney Crosby scored in regulation and the shootout and the Penguins overcame Jimmy Howard's second successive 46-save game to beat the Red Wings 2-1 on Sunday in the rivals' first game since Pittsburgh won Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals in Detroit.

It seems like yesterday it was June 12th when these two last met in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Steel City patron saint Mario Lemieux and shady creepster Ron Burkle, co-owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins, approached the Pittsburgh Pirates with an "unsolicited offer" to buy the MLB team, according to the Post-Gazette.

I have never liked Mario Lemieux. The genesis for this hatred was in 1992 when he, along with Jaromir Jagr and the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins, swept the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals. It was the first year I followed hockey, and it was a rather rude introduction.
